Anti-Wrinkle Activity of Clausena harmandiana Essential Oil and Development of a Bioactive Nano-Drug Delivery System for Cosmetic Applications

Background: Clausena harmandiana (Song Fa) leaves are a source of essential oil, in which the dominant compound is trans-anethole and reported high antioxidant activity but inhibition biological enzymes related to anti-wrinkle limit. Objectives: The objectives this study investigate ability Song Fa leaf oil (SFEO) inhibit that cause skin wrinkles then develop bioactive ingredient nano-drug delivery system for anti-ageing cosmetic products. Methods: Fresh were distilled their obtained. Then, anti-collagenase, elastase, hyaluronidase activities investigated compared with those an oleanolic acid standard. SFEO was developed into microemulsion by using Tween 80 as surfactant ethanol co-surfactant ratio 1:1. Results: presented highest inhibitory against collagenase (IC50 10.94±1.06 19.06±0.06 μg/ml, respectively), close 7.43±0.58 16.75±0.14 μg/ml), followed elastase 121.47±2.80 μg/ml). Two formulas different amounts 1% 5% w/w, formulated evaluated enzyme activities. results showed inhibited (35.78% 99.35%, respectively) more than (34.22% 92.67%, only formula exhibited anti-hyaluronidase activity. Conclusion: This information will benefit development essential-oil-based products increase utilization medicinal plants industry.
